Good Hope’s junior varsity girls punctuated their season with a performance befitting a champion.
The No. 1 Raiders lived up to their seeding on Saturday, leading Cold Springs wire-to-wire for a 43-32 victory in the title game of the Cullman County Basketball Tournament.
Good Hope built an early 21-6 advantage versus the No. 3 Eagles, who later rallied to cut the deficit to eight (24-16) heading into halftime.
But the Raiders maintained a comfortable cushion throughout the second half, securing a bucket or a stop when needed to prevent Cold Springs from making a run.
Player Speak
“We’re pretty excited. It’s great to win. It’s a good team and I’m looking forward to playing with them the next few years. I’m just happy we won.” — Lucie Adams
Coach Speak
“I thought we had a ton of talent on the roster entering the season. We were in a unique position, too, because I think a few of these girls are varsity girls. But because our varsity team is so good, we had to keep them down so they could get playing time and continue to develop. I thought this was a realistic goal for this team. They came out and competed every day. They did what we asked, had great attitudes about it and met their potential.” — Nina Moss
