The Niagara County health department will host a free rabies immunization clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets from 9 a.m. to noon April 12 at the Town of Porter Highway Garage, 1800 Brayley Road. An appointment is required. Scheduling begins Monday at www.niagaracounty.gov/rabiesclinic and at 716-439-7490.
Dog and cat owners are asked to bring proof of their pet’s vaccination with them to the clinic in order to receive a three-year vaccination certificate; otherwise, a one-year certificate will be issued. Ferrets will be issued a one-year certificate. Dogs must be secured with a collar and non-retractable leash, or be in a carrier. Cats and ferrets must be secured in a carrier.
In all, five free rabies immunization clinics will be offered through the end of the year, in coordination with the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society.

• May 31 — Hyde Park-Oasis/Centennial Pavilion, Niagara Falls
• July 12 — Town of Royalton Highway Garage
• Sept. 13 — Town of Lockport Highway Department
• Dec. 6 — North Tonawanda Public Works Department
Registration opens on the first business day of the week of the clinic date.
New York State law requires all cats, dogs and ferrets to have current rabies vaccinations from four months of age and on.
