The Cumberland County Fire Department hosted a 9-11 memorial service on Sept. 11 at 7:30 a.m. at the county’s 9-11 memorial to honor the the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy.
Several firefighters and first responders attended the event as well as the public.
Crossville resident Joanne Finn recalled her brother, Patrick Byrne, who was a New York City firefighter who was killed in the tragedy, attempting to fight the fire in the World Trade Center.
Finn thanked the firefighters for honoring the victims and keeping their memories alive with the service.
Chaplin Randall Dye recounted the events of 9-11 and offered a prayer. Capt. Derek Carter, Cumberland County Fire Department, recounted Cumberland County getting the girder from the World Trade Center through the efforts of the late Capt. Andrew “A.J.” Benson.
