MANKATO — Blue Earth Commissioners approved spending $833,550 as their share of funding a major renovation of All Seasons Arena.
The City Council in Mankato, which is paying the largest share, approved spending nearly $8 million during their meeting Monday night.
The other partners in ASA are to provide final authorization for their share — North Mankato $3.175 million and Mankato Public Schools $1.5 million, at their meetings Monday night.
The local funding will be paid over a 15 year period.
Blue Earth County Board members praised the work done, particularly by Mankato and City Manager Susan Arntz, on the long process of planning the renovation and identifying funding.
“An excellent example of governments working together,” Board Chair Kevin Paap said of the process.
The total renovation will cost $13.8 million. Beyond the local governments, funding includes a $180,000 donation from the Mankato Area Hockey Association and $166,000 is coming from a “Mighty Ducks” grant from the state of Minnesota’s Amateur Sports Commission.
The upcoming 18-month reconstruction project will be conducted even as the two-rink facility remains open to youth hockey practices, high school games and figure skating events.
