It took a couple of weeks, but the Newburyport boys are now officially in the win column for the 2025 season.
Everything seemed to come together on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, as the Clippers rolled to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Ipswich at James T. Stehlin Field. Offensively it was senior captain Devante Bucchiere sending home two goals, while in net fellow senior quad-captain Jack Burns earned his first shutout of the year. A pair of sophomores in Tim DeGraves and Parker Johnson also found the back of the net for the Clippers (1-3-1), and Kyle Lisauskas and Josh Sucheki had assists.
The boys will now travel over to Essex Tech on Thursday (5 p.m.).
Meanwhile, the Newburyport girls similarly cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ipswich. Aoife Tykulsky scored twice for the undefeated Clippers (3-0-2), and Carragh Casselini, Ruby Reardon and Lucia Savastra found the back of the net as well. Assisting on the goals were Sevilla Coffin (2), Grace Parsons, Ava Ranney and Phoebe Whitcomb, and both Chloe Raby and Margaux Dupuis split time in goal and made three saves each.
The Clippers will host Essex Tech on Thursday at 4 p.m.
TRITON: Boys and girls split against Amesbury
The Triton girls are really starting to play some good soccer.
A fact that was further cemented on Tuesday, when the Vikings made some clutch plays down the stretch to earn an exciting 2-1 win over Amesbury. That’s now three positive results in a row for the Vikings (2-3-1), who will look to keep it rolling when they host Pentucket on Thursday.
In the first half, it was sophomore Emilia Shkurti sending home her fifth goal of the season to get Triton on the board first. The Redhawks (0-5-0) would respond before the break to even things up, with captains Maria Barbosa, Maddie Clark and Della Hildt all leading the way. But after the break, in the 78th minute, Lilly Voltero earned a free kick from just outside of the box, and Shkurti put away her sixth goal in as many games to make it 2-1. Also, goalie Abby Sutherland made some great saves for the Vikings, which included stopping two penalty kicks.
Meanwhile, it was the opposite result for the boys’ game.
With Noah Synder, Maxx Rodriguez, Chase Linsey, Brodie Hall, Dane Hall and Noah Blouin all playing well, Amesbury was able to come away with the 2-0 win over Triton. It was the first victory of the season for the Redhawks (1-3-0), who saw sophomore goalie Nico Kmiec post the clean sheet.
GEORGETOWN: Pinkham powers Royals past Essex Tech
After their opening two games of the season, the Georgetown boys looked lost following rough back-to-back 5-0 losses.
Crazy, though, how only a couple of weeks can change things.
Because following Tuesday’s 2-0 shutout road victory over at Essex Tech, the Royals (3-3-0) have now won three of their last four games to move back to .500 on the year. Zach Pinkham was the man during this latest win, scoring both goals off assists from Bryce Hodges and Nikki Markovic while goalie Peter Trougakos made 12 saves.
Moving over to the girls’ game between these two schools, Georgetown was able to earn the 1-1 draw against Essex Tech on Tuesday. Following a scoreless first half, Jenna Johnson buried her third goal of the season for the Royals (2-3-1) to help secure the positive result.
PENTUCKET: Girls cruise to second win in a row
It’s safe to say that the Pentucket girls are starting to find their groove.
After a convincing win over Manchester Essex to end last week, the Panthers went on the road Tuesday and dominated their way to a 5-0 victory over Rockport. It was the first shutout of the year for sophomore goalie Maisie Costello, while pretty much all around her the rest of the team played well. That includes midfielders Sofia Bellacqua, Grace Sudbay, Francesca Peltier and Caroline Tedeschi, strikers Kaitlin Borci, Dani Costello, Gwen Goodwin, Bella Martins, Tenning Seymour and Kate Sweeney, and defenders Regan Breen, Allie Gagnon and Paige Rosario.
The Panthers (2-3-0) will now travel over to Triton on Thursday at 4 p.m.
