Summer is in full swing as carnivals and fairs open around Vermilion County in the coming weeks. On Saturday, July 6, the Georgetown Fair kicks off a week chock-full of events for everyone in the family.
Visitors can look forward to enjoying all their favorite fair events, including the carnival, demolition derby, rodeo, music concerts, art exhibitions, and more.
Gate admission is free on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Starting Tuesday, adults will be charged $2 for entry, while children between 5 and 11 years of age will be charged $1. Children under 5 will be admitted at no cost.
On Saturday morning, guests can peruse the fair’s art show, featuring photography, oil paintings, textiles, watercolor pieces and other original art made my local artists. There will also be a hobby show with folk art, jewelry, art pieces made of wood, metal, silk and more.
Agricultural contests will take place throughout the week. Contestants will compete for best in show among swing, sheep, goats, horses, mules, poultry, and more.
The Demolition Derby — a local favorite since 1969 — will take place Saturday evening. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children. The rodeo will take place on Friday, July 12, where adults will be charged $15 and children, $5.
On Sunday, fair-goers can enjoy an ice cream social in the afternoon and a community church service in the evening.
The Georgetown Fair Queen will be selected at the Queen Pageant on Monday evening. Attendees can also participate in games like WITY’s Celebrity Bingo and the Ping Pong Drop.
Several bands will be performing free shows at the Showcasing Building throughout the week, including Logan Kirby, Captains 3, Highway 341, Bob Schifo & “The Tuneslingers.” Joe Nichols and Walker Montgomery will perform a concert on Saturday, July 13. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25, or $35 at the gates.
The carnival kicks off on Tuesday night. Carnival rides will cost between $3 and $5 and tickets can be purchased in bulk for a discount — 22 tickets for $20. Armbands will cost $25 at the gates, or can be purchased for $15 in advance by visiting Georgetownfair.org.
Saturday, July 13 is Kid’s Day at the carnival from 1-5pm. Carnival rides will cost only $1 for children.
