The R&P Band will headline a celebration of Georgia’s cities on Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m. at the Burr Performing Arts Park in downtown Dalton.
Georgia Cities Week takes place April 21-27. The band, from Whitfield County, will play classic and favorite rock hits.
It’s a celebration that the Georgia Municipal Association organizes in the spring each year statewide to celebrate the role of municipalities and municipal governments in making life better for the residents that live there. It gives city officials an opportunity to share information with residents about the services the cities provide and about community enhancements.
“In Dalton, we have a lot to celebrate,” said Dalton Communications Director Bruce Frazier. “We’re very proud of what we’ve been able to build here in the city of Dalton over the more than 175 years since our founding. And we’re very excited about the work that’s being done now to make Dalton even better for the people who live here and work here.”
Frazier noted that Dalton is reinvesting in its parks and recreation system, with construction set to begin on the renovated John Davis Recreation Center this summer and new facilities on the way for pickleball as well as renovation of the city’s facilities for baseball, softball and other sports.
“The new Mill Line Trail is a gamechanger and is already proving to be even more popular than expected, and the tie-in with the Haig Mill Lake Park’s trail system is just making that park even more fun,” he said. “Our Public Works Department is doing great work to advance our 21st century stormwater management plan. They’re also doing great work to maintain our infrastructure and keep the city running, and they’re going to be working soon to complete the Streetscape master plan for downtown by remaking the Cuyler Street and Pentz Street corridors.”
He said the fire and police departments are constantly working to enhance their training and capabilities.
“In short, you get more bang for your buck here in Dalton,” he said. “Our residents receive a high level of service that even other municipalities can’t match. And this city is more than just its government and its employees, Dalton was made by the people who live here and do business here. We’re the home of a billion-dollar industry in the carpet and floorcovering industry, and there are numerous public-private partnerships at work with our business community which are continuing to make our community stronger. And we’re going to celebrate all of that on April 26.”
