EARLVILLE — Lauren Mettler will be hosted by Earlville Opera House on the main stage of its 1892 national landmark theater at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30.
According to a media release, the free event is in celebration of National Women’s History Month. It will also be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/themptf.
Mettler plans on performing a collection of songs written by women singer-songwriters who have inspired and influenced her own writing, as well as selections from her original repertoire.
Mettler has chosen to share songs that display an array of themes, but are described by her as gems of feminine tenderness, rich in their nuanced sensitivity and raw emotion. Listeners will be exposed to the gentle strength in the insightful words of the women songwriters intended to convey that courage and vulnerability are two sides of the same coin.
Hailing from the hills of Sherburne, Mettler grew up singing and playing music with her parents who played professionally when she was a child. She played in bands with her siblings and friends throughout her childhood and young adult life. She has since devoted herself to her solo songwriting craft. She learned originally to play music on the guitar, and has picked up the banjo, mandolin, and uke along the way. She loves to whistle and can play some Irish penny whistle.
Mettler is described as bearing a unique and earthy style of songwriting that enchants listeners with beautiful images and thought-provoking lyrics. She paints worlds which evoke nostalgia, empathy and courage. Her original music ranges in style from folk alternative to jazz classics, to winsome ballads, and all delivered with a melodious, articulate voice.
