Taps on Tuesday
The final Taps on Tuesday program will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Spring Hill Cemetery’s Soldiers Circle, 301 E. Voorhees in Danville. This week’s program will feature various military music and end with Cascading Taps.
Featured musicians will be Anita Zoeller, Rebecca Woodrum and Keith Bouslog. The program will be hosted by Tara Auter, Greg Green and Larry Weatherford.
Taps is presented by the War Museum, Danville Township and the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable.

Westville hosts library card signup
The Westville Public Library, 233 S. State St. in Westville, will celebrate library card signup month in September with a drawing for a brand new Kindle.
Anyone wishing to enter the drawing can do so by stopping at the library.

Hoopeston Library remembers the cats
After honoring dogs in August, the Hoopeston Public Library will be recognizing cats in September as it’s National Cat Month.
Anyone submitting a photo of their cat, either in person on online through Facebook or Instagram, will receive a treat along with one for the cat. Please include the cat’s name. All photos will be display at the library.
Additionally, the library is still taking donations for the Hoopeston Animal Rescue Team with this month’s emphasis on our feline friends.

War Museum hosts weekend events
The Vermilion County War Museum, 307 N. Vermilion St., will be hosting a pair of events this weekend.
First up on Friday, Sept. 4, the Museum’s classic military Jeep will be on display from 5-8 p.m. as part of the First Friday’s Discover Danville event. Museum volunteers will be on hand for information and guests can get their picture with the Jeep as living history presenter Don Smith portrays a World War II combat officer. The first 100 visitors will receive free admission to the War Museum.
The Museum’s First Saturday event, which commemorates Vermilion County’s 200th Birthday and America’s 250th will continue at 1 p.m. This month’s program is title “From the Factory to the Front: A Walking Tour of World War II.’’ Admission is free thanks to a great by Danville native Michael Eberhardt.
Wilcoxen reunion set for Sept 6
The 91st anniversary of the Wilcoxen reunion will be held at noon, Sunday, Sept. 6 in the Maple Grove Lodge at the Forest Glen County Preserve, 20301 900 North Rd, Georgetown. Attendees should bring a covered dish, personal drinks and table service. Historical photos to share will also be welcomed.

Volunteers needed at Forest Glen
The Gannett Education Center and Pioneer Homestead Cabin are needing building hosts from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Hosting the building will allow park visitors to come inside, tour the buildings, and learn more about Vermilion County wildlife and history.

Illinois Extension and OSF offer diabetes support
Illinois Extension and OSF Healthcare have joined together for a monthly diabetes support group designed for individual living with diabetes and their caregivers.
These sessions will be held on the second Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Danville Public Library, 319 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. The next session is set for Sept. 8 and the final session will be Dec. 8.
Each session will include a short educational component and open discussion, where participants may share their experiences, discuss their successes and challenges, and learn from one another.
Topics are not preset and will be guided on participant interests and needs. Participants will receive a SmartMeals meal kit from OSF.

Special exhibit at Art League
The Danville Art League is reflecting on the people, places and moments that have defined Vermilion County, celebrating its 200th Anniversary, and the United States, celebrating its 250th Anniversary.
“A Walk Through the History of the Art League,” is an exhibit currently on display at the Danville Art League, 320 N. Franklin Street in Danville.
This exhibit will be open during our regular business hours of 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays and Wednesdays. For other times, please call 217-442-9264 to make an appointment.
Additionally, Gary Resh, owner of Resh Frame Shop and a former Art League president will speak at a reception on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. It is free and open to the public.
River to Rail Ride set for Sept. 12
The Vermilion County Conservation District is hosting the River to Rail Ride on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Kennekuk County Park, 22296 Henning Road in Danville.
The ride has five different lengths (7.5, 30, 37, 51 and 63 miles) with a scenic route that takes you on a loop around the Middle Fork River with two support and gear (SAG) stops and tree-shaded roads in Kickapoo State Park before returning to Kennekuk.
The cost for registration is $45 for those 17 and older and $25 for those 16 and younger on the routes that leave Kennekuk. For the 7.5-mile route that stays within the park, cost is $30 for 17 and older and $10 for 16 and younger. All riders 16 and younger must ride with a registered adult.

Thompson to speak at Autumn Fields
John Thompson, candidate for Vermilion County Sheriff, will be the guest speaker at Autumn Fields in Tilton on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 2:00 pm.
John will discuss his vision for the sheriff’s department and share his law enforcement and other professional experience with attendees.
Automobile Club meets on Sept. 17
The monthly Illiana Antique Automobile Club meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Ridgeview Baptist Church.
This will be the last meeting before the Fall Car Show being held on Sept. 19 at Vermilion Chevrolet.

Foodmobile stops in Vermilion County
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank announces the “Foodmobile” will be distributing food to local families facing food insecurity in Vermilion County this month. On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Foodmobile will make stops in Rossville and Ridge Farm. The distribution is part of the Foodbank’s Foodmobile Program, a system of mobile food pantries designed to help bring nutritious food to rural or underserved areas.
The first stop on Sept. 22 will be at Christman Park in Rossville from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a stop in Ward Park in Ridge Farm from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
