War museum hosts “Fireside Chat”
The fourth installment of the Vermilion County War Museum’s First Saturday “Fireside Chat” series will be “Threads of Liberty – Part 2” on Saturday, March 7.
The program is a follow-up to last month’s event and will focus on Early American uniforms and equipment. It will be presented by Jeremy Brady and Ron Bolser.

New season for Hoopeston Seed Library
Spring is the time for gardeners to start making plans for their yards and gardens.
The Hoopeston Seed Library, ending its fifth year and located at the Hoopeston Public Library, offers a variety of garden seeds free to community members.
The purpose of a seed library is to share seeds, so the library welcomes donations from patrons of new or excess seeds.
Seed donation can be dropped off at the front desk during regular library hours.
Hospital volunteers host chocolate sale
The Paris Community Hospital Volunteers will host a two-day chocolate sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 11 and March 12 at Horizon Health’s main campus in Paris.
Sale items will include gourmet chocolates with sugar-free options, mixed nuts, and more.
Cash and debit/credit cards will be accepted. Chocolate sales support the efforts of the PCH Volunteers, who provide financial assistance to hospital projects and award scholarships to area students who are pursuing healthcare careers.
Class of 1957 meets for lunch
The Danville High School Class of 1957 will be meeting for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 16.
The lunch will be held at Jocko’s, located at 305 W. Williams St. in Danville.
The next luncheon is scheduled for June 15 at Jocko’s.
Horizon offers free CPR/AED Class
Horizon Health is offering a free Heartsaver CPR/AED course from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 13 at its Chrisman Clinic, located at 112 West Madison Avenue in Chrisman.
This non-healthcare provider course is for the community and teaches basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), which is used in cases of life-threatening cardiac events. An official CPR/AED certification card from the American Heart Association is optional for $25.
This course does not include first aid, which can be arranged separately.
To register for the class, visit MyHorizonHealth.org/Classes. Note that a credit or debit card is required when registering. The card will be charged a $25 fee to reserve a seat in the class. It will be refunded upon completion of the course, unless the participant chooses to purchase an optional American Heart Association certification card.

Events set for Westville Library
The Westville Public Library has announced multiple events for the month of March.
During the week of March 16-20, the library will hosting a Spring Break Craft Week. There will b a craft available every day that you do at the library or take home.
The second annual Stuff Sleepover is set for Wednesday, March 18. Kids can drop off their stuffy to spend the night with the library’s stuffies. Drop off is set for 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. that day. Pickup is set for 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 19. Breakfast, consisting of a donut and a drink will be available. Individuals unable to make breakfast can still pick up their stuffy until 6 p.m. that day.
An Art Roulette program for adults is set for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 21.
This program, hosted by Friends of the Westville Library, is for those 18-and-over. Individuals will paint on their canvas for 15 minutes, pass it to the next person, who will then add their creative touch, and so on.
The cost is $10 person for materials and a light lunch. Please call 217-267-3170 to reserve your spot.
CRIS Senior Services will be at the library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 to introduce a new program and discuss services already available.
City yard waste stickers available
DANVILLE — The City of Danville Public Works Yard Waste Division announces that 2026 Yard Waste Stickers are available for purchase now. Stickers are priced at $40 each and may be purchased in person or by phone (debit or credit card accepted; processing fees may apply) at the City of Danville Public Works and the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building.
Please note that only City-approved containers displaying a valid 2026-yard waste sticker will be collected during designated toter-only collection periods. A collection schedule and brochure outlining program guidelines will be provided with each sticker purchase.

Expo set for Fountain County
The Covington Business Association will be hosting its fourth annual Home, Garden and Business Expo from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. (Eastern) on Saturday, March 21 at the Fountain County Fairgrounds, in Veedersburg, Ind.

Coffee Talk at Hoopeston Library
Illinois Extension and OMNI 4 All will be hosting Coffee Talk at the Hoopeston Public Library, located at 110 N. Fourth St. in Hoopeston.
This series will teach participants on eating to support cognitive function, medication safety, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and general brain health education.
Sessions will be held 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month from until May.
The second part of the series, medication safety, is set for April 2 and the series will concludes on May 7 with Brain Health.
Coffee will be provided by the Hoopeston Public Library.

Vermillion County hosts beef raffle
The Vermillion County (Ind.) Board of Commissioners announced a Quarter Beef Raffle for Vermillion County (Ind.) residents.
The raffle is possible through a partnership with Ellis Beef Genetics and it’s an opportunity to enjoy premium, locally raised beef sourced from cattle raised on county-owned pasture. The Quarter Beef Raffle will be held annually for the next 30 years.
Entry fee for the raffle is $20 non-refundable application fee, payable at the auditor’s office. The winner will be drawn live at next commissioners meeting on Tuesday, April 7. The application deadline is Friday, April 3{span style=”font-size: 1.17em;”} {/span}
