Danville Rotary sells sweet corn
The Danville Sunrise Rotary will be selling sweet corn on Saturday, July 25 at the former Scooters Coffee Shop on North Vermilion Street in Danville.
Money raised will be used to help local businesses aiding children, seniors and veterans in our community.

Snappers hosts music sale & jam
The first-ever Musician’s Yard Sale & Jam will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, July 25 at Snapper’s Bar & Grill at Turtle Run, 332 E. Liberty Lane, Danville.
Listen to live music and browse many vendors made up of musicians selling, trading and buying guitars, basses, drums, amps, keyboards, saxophones, records, CDs, posters along with band and music t-shirts and many other musical/sound items.
Admission is free.
There will also be two live jam sessions, 1-1:45 p.m. and again 2:30-3:15 p.m., for anyone wanting to bring their guitar, bass or drum sticks. No outside amps, drums or keyboards are allowed.

Foodmobile stops in Vermilion County
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank announces the “Foodmobile” will be distributing food to local families facing food insecurity in Vermilion County this month. On Tuesday, July 28, the Foodmobile will make stops in Rossville and Ridge Farm. The distribution is part of the Foodbank’s Foodmobile Program, a system of mobile food pantries designed to help bring nutritious food to rural or underserved areas.
The first stop on July 28 will be at Christman Park in Rossville from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a stop in Ward Park in Ridge Farm from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Taps on Tuesday
This week’s Taps on Tuesday program will feature local historian and re-enactor Doug “Spike” Sowers, a local historian and re-enactor.
Sowers will talk about the Henry Kester family buried at Spring Hill Cemetery across from the Soldiers Circle. The Kester family has a military history dating back to the Revolutionary War.
Taps will be sounded by Anita Zoeller. The National Anthem will be performed by Rebecca Woodrum, while Tara Auter and Larry Weatherford will host the program.
“Taps on Tuesday” is presented at 6 p.m. each Tuesday through Labor Day at the Spring Hill Cemetery’s Soldiers Circle by the War Museum, Danville Township and the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable. In case of rain, the program will be held at the War Museum.

Bismarck Lions host Jonah fish fry
The Bismarck Lions Club will serve Jonah fish fry meals from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin High School, 17268 E 2750 North Rd, in Bismarck.
Tickets for the meals are $12 for anyone 13 or older, $5 for kids 6-12 and free for those 5 and younger. The fish and sweet corn are all you can eat and are served with three sides. Sponsor packs of 10 tickets are available before Aug. 1 for $90.
Tickets are available from any Bismarck Lions Club member or can bе purchased at the door. Funds donated will be used to help meet needs of the community.

St. James hosts rummage, bake sale
The St. James United Methodist Church, 504 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, is hosting its annual rummage, bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29.
The sale, featuring home-baked goodies, will be in the air-conditioned gymnasium, and all proceeds from this all-church sale go to local charities.

First Saturday event stars local historian
The War Museum’s First Saturday event in August will feature retired attorney, local historian and Joseph G. Cannon scholar, Timothy O. Smith.

St. Joseph Library hosts book sale
The St. Joseph Township-Swearingen Memorial Library, 201 N. Third St., St. Joseph, announces its Summer Used Book Sale. The book sale will begin on Monday, Aug. 3 and end on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
All items are for sale by donation. There will be adult fiction, non-fiction, mystery, science fiction, horror, romance adventure, biography, crafts and cookbooks as well as children’s fiction, non-fiction and picture books. There may also be DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks and large print books.

Illinois Extension and OSF offer diabetes support
Illinois Extension and OSF Healthcare have joined together for a monthly diabetes support group designed for individual living with diabetes and their caregivers.
These sessions will be held on the second Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Danville Public Library, 319 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. The next session is set for Aug. 11 and the final session will be Dec. 8.
Each session will include a short educational component and open discussion, where participants may share their experiences, discuss their successes and challenges, and learn from one another.
Topics are not preset and will be guided on participant interests and needs. Participants will receive a SmartMeals meal kit from OSF.

Turtle Run hosts DARE golf outing
The 34th Annual Vermilion County D.A.R.E. Golf Scramble is set for noon, Aug. 15 at Turtle Run Golf Club, 332 E. Liberty Lane in Danville.
Cost to enter the four-man scramble is $85 per team member or and the cost for Turtle Run members is $70 per player.
In addition to 18 holes of golf, the entry includes the use of a golf cart and lunch at 11 a.m. Sponsorships are also available, a scoreboard sponsorship costs $25, a hole sponsorship costs $50 and a corporate sponsorship, which includes team, cart and hole sponsorship, is $500.

Kiwanis Pancake Day set for Aug. 27
The 76th Annual Kiwanis Pancake and Sausage Day is set for Thursday, Aug. 27 at the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville.
The Kiwanis will be serving pancakes and sausages from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets are $7.50 from a Kiwanis member or the cost is $8 at the door.
Art League hosts special exhibit
The Danville Art League is reflecting on the people, places and moments that have defined Vermilion County, celebrating its 200th Anniversary, and the United States, celebrating its 250th Anniversary.
“A Walk Through the History of the Art League,” is an exhibit currently on display at the Danville Art League, 320 N. Franklin Street in Danville.

Horizon Health hosts EMT class
Horizon Health is now accepting registration for an EMT-Basic certification course this fall.
The 20-week course will take place Mondays and Thursdays, from 5 to 9 pm, beginning September 14. Classes will take place at the Horizon Health Education Center, located at 15197 US Highway 150, in Paris.
The course fee is $1,000, which includes a student polo shirt for clinical hours, student workbook, a drug screen, and a background check. This fee will also cover the applicant’s first exam attempt through the National Registry. Applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Internet access is required, as this is a hybrid course. Access to Jones & Bartlett Learning and all course materials are provided. CPR certification is included in the course.
Applicants will be screened prior to being accepted into the class, which may include a brief meeting or phone interview. They cannot be a convicted felon and must be up to date on immunizations prior to the start of class. Accepted applicants will be notified.
