Trinity Lutheran hosts rummage, bake sale
Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 824 E. Main Street in Danville, is hosting its semi-annual rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 11.
Chili, hot dogs and deserts will be available during the sale.
VVC Art Show set for Oakwood
The Vermilion Valley Conference Art Show is set for Saturday, April 11 at Oakwood High School.
The show will run from noon to 3 p.m. with an awards presentation set for 2:30 p.m. and it will feature around 1,000 pieces of art from the 13 schools that comprise the VVC, including Vermilion County schools, Armstrong-Potomac, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, Georgetown-Ridge Farm, Hoopeston Area, Oakwood, Salt Fork, Schlarman Academy and Westville.
The event is supported by The Cadie Foundation, Iota Theta and the Danville Art League.
Covington VFW hosts fish fry
VFW Post No. 2395 Auxiliary is hosting a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday, April 17 at their post located at 1212 Liberty Street in Covington, Ind.
The menu includes fish, fries, baked beans, slaw and tea. Cost is $15 for the public and $12 for veterans.
Proceeds are used to support community and post activities as well as maintain the post.
Flag sales for Memorial Way
The Danville Rotary Club has lined Vermilion Street in Danville with American Flags to honor our heroes over Memorial Day Weekend for the last 25 years.
Each flag costs $5 and allows an individual to honor someone special to them with an American Flag and a card.
The cards can note a branch of the military and any awards received (Purple Heart, Silver Star, etc.) While most flags honor past or present military service personnel, anyone can be recognized. If the name is blank, Rotary will select heroes chose by the War Museum to memorialize. Corporate sponsorships are also available. Proceeds from the flag sales will support Rotary community service projects and scholarships for veterans and their families.

Noon Rotary meets at noon on the first Monday of every month at WorkSource Enterprises.

IGHS Library hosts open house
The Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society is hosting an open house to showcase its new library addition on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m., at the IGHS Library, located at 215 W. North Street in Danville.
The new library space has been created through the renovation of a storage area. Speakers will be Sue Richter and Todd Lee, co-chairs of the Vermilion County 200th Anniversary Committee. Refreshments will be served and tours will be given.

Barbershoppers present concert
The Danville Barbershop Chorus will celebrate “The Music of America” in a 3 p.m. concert on Saturday, May 2 at Danville’s historic Fischer Theatre.
This concert will highlight the various styles of American music over the past 250 years.
The Danville chapter of Sweet Adelines will also perform as special guets.
Tickets range from $30 to $15 and can be reserved online at www.fischertheatre.com or they can be purchased at the box office on the day of the concert.
Car club hosts monthly meeting
The Illiana Antique Automobile Club will host its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 at Ridgeview Baptist Church, 3838 N. Vermilion Street in Danville.
Technology classes for older adults
Teaching older adults about staying safe online, video chatting and choosing a new computer are just classes offered during a series of free classes at CRIS Healthy Aging, located at 309 N. Franklin St. in Danville.
The classes will run from 1 until 2 p.m. on Fridays until May 1.
Paced for beginners, classes cover a wide range of topics. The AARP Senior Plant Division provides curriculum for each class. Attendees may take as many classes as they wish or choose only classes that fit their needs.
No registration is needed. The next session will be on Friday, April 17.

Project Success hosts Casino Night fundraiser
Project Success will host its fourth annual Casino Night on Saturday, April 18 at Turtle Run.
The annual fundraiser helps Project Success sustain its programs and expand services to the students who need them the most. Project Success is dedicated to supporting local youth and families through after-school programming, academic support, enrichment activities and community engagement opportunities.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. with game tables for craps, roulette and black jack being open from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 10 p.m. In addition to the games, there will be hors d’oeuvres, giveaways and silent-auction prizes. Tickets are $30.

Electronics collection set for April 18
The Vermilion County Health Department, in partnership with Danville Area Community College (DACC) and Keep Vermilion County Beautiful (KVCB), will host a free electronics collection event from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. The event, open to all residents of Vermilion County, will take place in the north parking lot of DACC. located at 2000 East Main Street in Danville.

Career expo set for DACC
The Vermilion County Career Expo is set for Thursday, April 23 at Danville Area Community College.
Local businesses are invited to be part of the expo. The event will kick off with a student-only session from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by time open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Vendor registration is completely free, making it easier than ever for businesses and organizations to participate and connect with hundreds of attendees. The event will offer both indoor and outdoor exhibitor space, giving vendors the flexibility to create interactive booths, bring equipment, and provide hands-on demonstrations.

Foodmobile stops in Vermilion County
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank announces the “Foodmobile” will be distributing food to local families facing food insecurity in Vermilion County this month.
On Tuesday, April 28, the Foodmobile will make stops in Rossville and Ridge Farm.
The distribution is part of the Foodbank’s Foodmobile Program, a system of mobile food pantries designed to help bring nutritious food to rural or underserved areas.
The first stop on April 28 will be at Christman Park in Rossville from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a stop in Ward Park in Ridge Farm from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Proven IT and the Danville Public Library are hosting an in-person education event focused on AI and Microsoft Copilot in the workplace.

The United Way of Danville Area announces that tickets are on sale now for United We Cook 2026 at the David S. Palmer Arena in Danville.
The event is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. Admission is $50 and all attendees must be 21 or older.

New season for seed library
Spring is the time for gardeners to start making plans for their yards and gardens.
The Hoopeston Seed Library, ending its fifth year and located at the Hoopeston Public Library, offers a variety of garden seeds free to community members.
The purpose of a seed library is to share seeds, so the library welcomes donations from patrons of new or excess seeds.
Seed donation can be dropped off at the front desk during regular library hours.
Coffee Talk at Hoopeston Library
Illinois Extension and OMNI 4 All will be hosting Coffee Talk at the Hoopeston Public Library, located at 110 N. Fourth St. in Hoopeston.
This series will teach participants on eating to support cognitive function, medication safety, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and general brain health education.
Sessions will be held 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month until June.
The third part of the series, medication safety, will be May 7 and the series will conclude on June 4 with Brain Health.
Coffee will be provided by the Hoopeston Public Library.

GRHS alumni banquet is set for May 23
The Georgetown Ridge Farm Alumni Association and the Class of 1976 would like to invite you to attend the Alumni Banquet set for Saturday, May 23.
The banquet will be at the Beef House Banquet Center in Covington, Ind. Social hour starts at 5 p.m. (Central) with dinner at 6 p.m. and the program to follow.

5K race set for BOV Festival
Balloons over Vermilion is going to kick off the 2026 Festival with the inaugural “Up & Away 5K” at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6 at Kennekuk County Park.
Runners and walkers are invited to take part in the scenic course, and after the race, participants and others can enjoy a relaxing yoga session led by Merrit Spicer of Yoga on the Go. The one-hour session will being around 9 a.m.
Cost for the race is $40 before April 15 and it goes up to $45 after. Participants will receive an official race T-shirt, a race bib number, a medal and free admission to the post-race yoga session. Non-race participants can join the yoga session for $10.
