MENDOTA HEIGHTS — St. Thomas scored two third-period goals to top the Minnesota State men’s hockey team 2-1 in a CCHA game Saturday night. MSU won game 1 of the series 3-1 Friday at Mankato.
MSU got on the scoreboard first at 5:39 of the second period on a goal from Adam Eisele. Josh Groll and Zach Krajnik got assists.
St. Thomas’ Luc Laylin tied the game with a goal at 13:28 of the third period, and Noah Prokop scored the game-winning goal minutes later at 16:16.
Shots on goal in the game favored MSU 29-27, but the Tommies had a 14-9 advantage in the category in the third period. Keenan Rancier made 25 saves for the Mavericks.
MSU (7-7-2, 5-4-1 in CCHA) will play a nonconference series against RPI next weekend at Troy, New York.
Women’s hockey: Kianna Roeske scored for the Mavericks in a 6-1 WCHA road loss to Ohio State. The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak for the Mavericks.
Shelbi Guttormson and Whitney Tuttle had assists for MSU.
Shots on goal favored the Buckeyes 46-30. Lauren Barbro made 40 saves in net for MSU.
The Mavericks (7-11, 3-10 in WCHA) finish their series with Ohio State Sunday.
