MANKATO — The Bethany Lutheran softball team split of pair of games, losing 4-2 to Hamline and defeating Concordia 9-2, in Sunday’s final games of the Kwik Trip Invitational at the Maverick All-Sports Dome.
In the opener, Kaija Mork had two of Bethany’s seven hits, and Katelyn Halbach had an RBI. Jordan Green and Emily Meyer each scored a run.
Meyer allowed two runs in three innings and took the loss. Mork pitched four innings of relief and gave up two runs.
Haley Stockman had three hits in the victory over Concordia, while Sydney Jacobs had two hits and scored three runs.
Mork pitched a complete game, striking out three.
Bethany (3-1) will play four games at the Maverick All-Sports Dome on Saturday and Sunday.
Minnesota State
Baseball: Ryan Wickman hit three home runs, including a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, to give the Mavericks a 6-5 win over Northwest Missouri State in the final game of the Missouri Southern Lion Classic at Joplin, Missouri.
Wickman finished with four RBIs. Aidan Byrne also hit a solo home run, finishing with three hits and two RBIs.
Louis Magers pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, and Mitch Gutknecht finished to get the win, allowing three hits with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
The Mavericks (1-2) plays a four-game series with Mary, starting Friday, at Elkhorn, Nebraska.
Women’s tennis: Mary dominated the singles to claim a 4-3 victory over Minnesota State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match at Owatonna.
Minnesota State’s Chiara Carnelutti and Avery Stilwell won 7-5 at No. 1 and Elizabeth Felderman and McKenna DeMarce won 6-1 at No. 3 to earn the doubles point.
Stilwell won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, and Felderman won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5.
Minnesota State plays Winona State on Saturday.
Women’s swimming and diving: The Mavericks finished second at the Northern Sun championships, which ended Saturday at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Mavericks scored 865.5 points, with Augustana winning at 948.5.
Minnesota State’s Nathan Owens was named the Northern Sun coach of the year, the fourth time he was received that award in his career.
Abby Gronholz won her second championship in the 200-meter backstroke in 2:02.05.
Gustavus Adolphus
Softball: The Gusties split two games at the Bethany Lutheran Kwik Trip Invitational, losing 5-2 to Nebraska Wesleyan and winning 10-2 in five innings against North Central at the Maverick All-Sports Dome.
Against Nebraska Wesleyan, Carly Olson had a two-run single in the first inning for Gustavus’ only runs. Olson finished with two hits. Maizie Anderson took the loss, allowing three runs in the first three innings.
The Gusties used an eight-run first inning to defeat North Central. Carly Nelson had two hits, including a two-run double. Ava Hamsund pitched the first four innings with seven strikeout to get the win, and Megan Sherwood pitched a hitless inning.
The Gusties (2-2) play again Friday and Saturday at the Maverick All-Sports Dome.
Swimming and diving: The Gusties swept the MIAC championships on Saturday at the University of Minnesota.
The women won their first conference title since 2015, while the men won their fifth straight MIAC championship.
Lucy Peterson won the 100-meter freestyle in 52.02. The 400 freestyle relay team of Peterson, Macey Whitlock, Stella Anderson Moye and Marit Isaacson finished first in 3:32.69.
For the men’s team, Matt Strom, who won five events on Friday, took first in the 200 backstroke in 1:47.52. Peyton Richardson won the 200 butterfly in 1:51.49.
In the 400 freestyle, Strom, Richardson, Kieran Ripken and Logan Cyr placed first in 3:04.05.
