For the second time this season, Minnesota State freshman Evan Murr has been named CCHA defenseman of the week, the league announced Monday.
Murr is the eighth Mavericks player to win a CCHA weekly award and the second defenseman, joining Mason Wheeler (Dec. 4).
Murr scored a first-period power-play goal on Friday, when the Mavericks tied Northern Michigan 2-2. It was his fifth goal of the season. He also had two blocked shots in Saturday’s 4-0 victory, as the Mavericks allowed just 18 shots on goal.
Murr was named the CCHA defenseman of the week on Jan. 8 and rookie of the week on Nov. 13.
Murr leads all Minnesota State defensemen with five goals, 14 assists and 19 points and holds a plus-8 rating with 23 blocked shots and one game-winning goal.
The Mavericks are tied for first place with St. Thomas in the CCHA with eight games remaining in the regular season.
Minnesota State (13-9-4, 9-5-1 in CCHA) plays at St. Thomas on Friday (7:07 p.m.), then hosts the Tommies on Saturday (6:07 p.m.) at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
