GRAYLING — Mancelona’s Alyssa Kiel helped lead Kirtland Community College in a pair of setbacks this week.
Kiel led the Firebirds women’s basketball team with 19 points — along with Kalkaska’s Lucy Hall — in a 78-71 loss to Wayne County Community College.
Kiel then put up 11 points and 12 rebounds in a 65-60 loss to Glen Oaks Community College.
Mariah Ellis (Millington) added 20 points and Elly Sexton (Brethren) added a double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds against Glen Oaks.
The Firebird men dropped a 74-59 game to Wayne County CC. Jayvion Sims (Detroit) led Kirtland with 22 points, Dominique Ramsey (Detroit) added 13 and Troy Jenkins (Jacksonville, Fla.) 11.
NCMC’s Taylor honored by league
North Central Michigan College sophomore Arika Taylor (Joliet, Ill.) was named the Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s Northern Conference Player of the Week for her performances against Oakland CC and Kellogg CC. She’s averaging 11.5 points a game this season.
The NCMC men’s and women’s basketball teams travel Tuesday to Flint to play Mott Community College.
