PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County District Attorney’s Office announced today the conviction and sentencing of Ashaun Brinson following multiple arrests in 2025 for domestic violence‑related offenses.
Brinson, 43, was first arrested on July 20, 2025, and charged with aggravated family offense and first-degree criminal contempt in the First Degree.
On July 30, 2025, he was arrested a second time on the same charges after again violating an active court order by contacting the protected party.
Brinson was indicted Dec. 23, 2025, on all four charges.
On April 16, Brinson appeared in Clinton County Court before Judge William A. Favreau where he pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated family offense, a class E felony.
On June 11, Favreau sentenced Brison to one and a half to three years in state prison as a second felony offender along with mandatory fines, surcharges, a crime victim assistance fee and DNA collection.
In addition, a full stay away order of protection was issued for the victim.
“The defendant’s repeated and deliberate violations of court-ordered protections made clear that a stronger intervention was necessary,” Chief Assistant DA Jamie A. Douthat said in a statement.
“His conduct reflected a serious disregard for the safety of the victim and for the authority of the courts. Aggravated family offense is intended for precisely these situations, where an offender engages in a pattern of escalating, repeat domestic violence behavior that cannot be overlooked.
“This office pursued felony charges because the defendant’s actions required a firm and appropriate response.”
Brinson was represented by the Tucker Stancliff, Esq. Douthat prosecuted the case.
