The Bryan Symphony Orchestra welcomes audiences to an inspiring and dynamic concert featuring internationally acclaimed clarinetist Doreen Ketchens under the direction of Dan Allcott.
The concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the Bryan Fine Arts Center in Wattenbarger Auditorium,
The program opens with the powerful and richly expressive Gaelic Symphony by Amy Beach — a landmark work and the first symphony composed and published by an American woman. Rooted in Irish-inspired melodies, the piece showcases sweeping orchestral colors and lyrical beauty.
Following the symphony, Ketchens joins the orchestra for a lively and soulful set of beloved tunes.
Known for her virtuosic playing and engaging stage presence, she will perform favorites such as “What a Wonderful World” and “Amazing Grace,” blending jazz, gospel, and New Orleans traditions into an unforgettable musical experience.
Ketchens’ appearance is part of a special three-day residency at Tennessee Tech University.
Events begin on Friday, when she performs with the Tennessee Tech Jazz Band. On Saturday, she will be the featured guest artist at the Clarinet Studio’s Clarinet Congress, working with students and performing in a day of clarinet-focused events.
The residency culminates in Sunday’s orchestral performance with the Bryan Symphony Orchestra.
This unique weekend of performances and educational events offers the community multiple opportunities to experience Ketchens’ artistry across genres and settings.
This concert is made possible in part by Center Stage.
