NEWBURYPORT — The public is invited to a ceremony honoring Uvalde, Texas, and all victims of gun violence on the second anniversary of sister city Uvalde’s tragic school shooting on May 24, 2022.
On Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m., community leaders will honor each of the 21 victims at Uvalde with 21 attendees speaking their name and adding their images to Garden of Remembrance trees. Enter at the Washington Street, Newburyport Rail Trail entrance.
There will be brief remarks by Paula Estey, The PEG Center for Art & Activism; Ann Haaser, Grassroots 4 GVP; Jody Marchand, survivor; Newburyport Mayor Sean Reardon; State Rep. Dawne Shand; and the Rev. Rebecca Bryan, First Religious Society, Unitarian Universalist of Newburyport.
The PEG Center and the Women in Action Huddle of Greater Newburyport are raising funds and seeking community members to help buy a bench for the Garden of Remembrance and create and send a tiled art plaque to the sister community in Uvalde.
