The day before the city’s deadline for dumpster removal at 27 Market St., the city entered a license agreement with Logan’s Trucking to keep its dumpsters in place.
At a special meeting, the Common Council passed the agreement Tuesday, June 30. Mayor Dan Buttermann signed the agreement immediately after.
Buttermann said before the meeting that Logan’s Trucking is “stepping up to be a partner to work on downtown waste management generally.”
According to the agreement, Logan’s Trucking will be responsible for screening off its dumpsters at the site and keeping the property clean.
The agreement has a term of five years with an automatic one-year renewal each year, unless either party provides notice of non-renewal at least 90 days in advance. The agreement stated that the city can cancel the agreement for any reason with 90 days notice.
Starting Oct. 1, Logan’s Trucking will pay the city $250 per month for the license to use the spot, according to the agreement.
Logan’s Trucking did not return request for comment.
Casella Waste Management, which also had been using the site, was still bound by the July 1 deadline. On Wednesday, Casella’s dumpsters were not present at the site.
City officials had been discussing how to address downtown trash management following the 2023 demolition of the parking garage. The council extended a prior deadline to July 1, and held firm despite some efforts by downtown business owners to extend it.
Several council members said during deliberations that they hoped the deadline would motivate stakeholders to find a solution.
“I certainly think it helped” provide a “sense of urgency,” Buttermann said.
