PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh will celebrate the nation’s 248th birthday with a parade, free concert, food court and fireworks show during the annual Downtown Plattsburgh Fourth of July Celebration on Thursday, July 4.
“As each Independence Day celebration comes around, the city is ready to host thousands who come out to enjoy the parade, food, and community celebration,” City of Plattsburgh Mayor Christopher Rosenquest said.
“This year we’d like to make this the biggest parade we’ve seen. We’re encouraging all community groups, neighborhoods, not for profit organizations, and other regional agencies to participate in our parade. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure for your organization and group.”
The Trinity Park food court will be open at noon, featuring local food trucks and vendors including Love, Peace Grilled Cheese; Cousins Maine Lobster, Guiseppe’s Pizza Truck and more.
This year there will be a designated Accessibility Tent located on the North Lawn of City Hall.
This area will provide an unobstructed view of the parade for folks who are wheelchair users or have mobility needs.
The Fourth of July parade starts at 1 p.m. and will showcase over 30 floats including the North Country Honor Flight, fire trucks, racecars, dance performances, as well as other local businesses and organizations.
In addition to the Accessibility Tent, a designated Quiet Zone will be established in front of North Country Home Services (151 Bridge Street) at the corner of Bridge and Jay Street.
Parade participants will not be playing music, blowing horns or sirens in this area.
This area is designated for families and children with auditory sensitivities who require a quiet area to view the parade.
The free concert on the steps of City Hall will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the evening will close out with a fireworks display immediately following the performance, at approximately 9:30 p.m., viewable from Downtown Plattsburgh.
This year’s performance includes Taylor LaValley, local singer and songwriter, at 5:30 p.m. followed by Boston based band, Couch, 7:30 p.m.
Space is limited, but floats, vehicles and walking groups are encouraged to sign up until the deadline of 4 p.m. on Thursday June 27.
