After returning high marks for Crossville City Manager Valerie Hale’s performance over the past contract period, city council is expected to finalize a new contract for the next three years at Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting.
A written performance evaluation was recently completed and submitted by all members of council and briefly discussed at this week’s work session. Council members returned a 4.78 score out of possible 5 evaluation.
“Overall, I think she’s done an excellent job,” Councilman James Mayberry said.
Others echoed that sentiment and Mayor R.J. Crawford said the evaluation form speaks for itself.
The evaluation covered performance ratings in 2; area of professional skills and status, relations with elected officials, policy execution, reporting, citizen relations, supervision, fiscal management and community relations.
On the scale with 5 perfect, council as a group gave the following evaluations:
Individual characteristics, 4.84; professional skills and status, 4.76; relations with elected officials, 4.7 policy execution, 4.78; reporting, 4.84; citizen relations, 4.84; staffing, 4.69; supervision, 4.65; fiscal management, 4.92; and community, 4.8.
Comments from council on strengths included “multi-tasks well and has ability to see the bigger pitcher,” “truly desires to see Crossville excel,” strong will to achieve the city’s goals,” and, “Very knowledgeable and competent in the manager’s duties.”
Areas of improvement noted were, “Continue to find ways to build a bridge of teamwork with our city fire department and county EMS,” and “continue to address the vagrant issue;” “strive to investigate and provide specific findings, with action plans, when particular concerns and inquiries are presented or requested;” and, “Valerie is doing a great job. We all could improve on anything we do.”
Council is expected to take final action on the new contract next Tuesday.
The meeting convenes at 6 p.m. in Crossville City Hall, 392 N. Main St.
