For the past three years, Dalton residents Gary and Nancy Dale, who are members of Rock Bridge Community Church, have served almost every Tuesday in the food pantry of Dalton’s Greater Works ministry.
“They have also filled in (at the food pantry) on some Sundays when we’ve needed help,” said Robert Hill, founder and president of Dalton’s Greater Works. Founded in 1996, Dalton’s Greater Works provides services to the homeless and indigent in the community, including through the food pantry and a clothing “store” where those in need can get clothing.
Hill said the pantry serves 20 to 30 families each month. He said some of the people served are elderly and some are families with children.
Hill said the Dales came to Dalton’s Greater Works with friends who also volunteer at the ministry to find out more about the ministry and have kept coming back to help out.
“They have a great heart for people,” he said. “All of the people who work with us do. They want to help others, and the food pantry is a great way to do that. They not only help people get food, they take the time to talk to them, get to know them and share the good news of the Gospel.”
For their efforts to help others, the Dalton Daily Citizen names Gary and Nancy Dale Citizens of the Week.
