LAVALE — A child who fell from a second-story window at Super 8 Motel on National Highway Wednesday evening was flown to a pediatric trauma center in Morgantown, West Virginia, according to an Allegany County Joint Communications Center spokesperson.
The incident at 1301 National Highway was reported just after 6 p.m., according to the spokesperson.
Reports from the scene indicated the 6-year-old suffered a head injury after falling approximately 30 feet.
Trooper 5, a Maryland State Police Aviation Command medevac, was started based off the information received during the 911 call, said Joint Communications Center Chief Steve Shipley.
“In cases involving children that may require specialty care, our communications staff can request aviation be launched based off the information they receive,” Shipley said. “In this instance, getting the child to a pediatric trauma center in a timely manner.”
Units from LaVale and Corriganville volunteer fire departments, ambulances from LaVale Rescue, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services and a county EMS supervisor responded.
The victim was transported by ambulance from the motel to a landing zone at Lions Field off Braddock Road, according to the Joint Communications Center spokesperson.
Trooper 5 transported the child to WVU Children’s Hospital, a pediatric trauma center on the campus of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
The condition of the child was not available.
