MANKATO — A report of an attempted abduction of a Mankato elementary school student on Thursday was fabricated by the student, Mankato police announced Friday night.
The girl reported that a person tried to persuade her to get into a vehicle as she walked toward school along a Mankato street Thursday morning. She said she was able to get away and return home.
Mankato police canvassed the area and worked closely with homeowners and businesses to investigate the reported incident, including viewing video from porch cameras and surveillance systems.
Public Safety Director Jeremy Clifton thanked those who assisted police: “Being able to see video footage from residences and businesses helped move the investigation forward to the point where we knew this was not a credible report.”
Following the investigation and discussions with the girl’s parents, she acknowledged that the report was not true.
