A Chateaugay woman was killed Friday in a car crash after an SUV ran a stop sign along Route 11 in St. Lawrence County, according to state police.
Tammy L. Brunette-Kaska, 53, was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead, according to a news release issued by state police.
Also involved in the crash were a 17-year-old male from Chateaugay; a 16-year-old female from Chateaugay; and a 14-year-old male from Brushton, police said.
According to police, about 9:19 p.m. Friday, troopers responded to the intersection of County Route 55 and U.S. Route 11 in the town of Lawrence for a reported two-vehicle motor vehicle collision.
Upon arrival, troopers located a gray 2017 Chevrolet Traverse and a gray 2016 Honda CR-V involved in the crash, police said, and a preliminary investigation determined that a Chevrolet Traverse, operated by Ricky L. DeShane, 55, of Brasher Falls, was traveling northbound on County Route 55 when he failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the front passenger side of the Honda CR-V, which was traveling eastbound on Route 11.
According to police, the operator of the Honda was identified as Jesse P. Kaska, 49, of Chateaugay. Brunette-Kaska was the front-seat passenger.
DeShane was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said, and all occupants of the Honda were transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital with serious injuries.
The three juvenile passengers were subsequently transferred to Upstate Medical University in Syracuse for further medical treatment, where they remain in stable but critical condition, police said. Kaska was admitted to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and on Sunday was listed in stable condition.
Police said the investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
