NORTH MANKATO — A man on a motorbike was reportedly driving 120-plus mph while fleeing police on Highway 169 in late March, according to court records.
Jared Christopher Van Vickle, 20, of Mankato, was charged with felony fleeing police and three misdemeanors for reckless driving, careless driving and speeding Thursday in Nicollet County District Court.
A criminal complaint states a State Patrol trooper clocked Van Vickle going 121 mph southward in a 65-mph zone on the highway on March 31 in Nicollet County, with Van Vickle turning his head and looking at the trooper on his way by.
The trooper pursued him and saw him weaving between two vehicles before later taking an exit off the highway.
Van Vickle reportedly went down a dead-end street, where a trooper saw him and the motorbike in a backyard. The complaint states Van Vickle told the trooper he really had to go to the bathroom, “was just trying to have a good time” and admitted to going up to 130 mph.
An initial court appearance in the case is scheduled for June 25.
