MANKATO — A Mankato man reportedly broke into a local restaurant and neighboring business in 2023, stealing cash, gift cards and more, according to recently filed charges.
Kyle Scott James, 39, faces two felony burglary charges and a felony property damage charge in Blue Earth County District Court.
Police responded to a burglary report at the restaurant on Jan. 13, 2023. Police logs show the address listed for the incident matches that of PappaGeorge Restaurant and Bar.
The restaurant owner told police the burglar stole about $450 in cash and $300 in gift cards. The owner of a business next door reported stolen gold coins, gold jewelry, credit cards and car titles.
Blood drops found at the scene indicated a suspect cut themselves on a jagged door frame while forcing their way inside. A Bureau of Criminal Apprehension analysis linked the blood to James.
Police used a search warrant on James’ residence and turned up gold coins, identified as the same taken from one of the businesses. An officer also discovered the gold necklace had been pawned.
Along with the stolen items, the businesses reported $3,000 or more in damage caused by the break-in.
