The final resting place of Thomas Council Cooper will be honored during a grave-marking ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Coopertown Cemetery near Jamestown,
Cooper was a veteran of the Battle of Kings Mountain in the American Revolutionary War and the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812.
Representatives of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, General Society of the War of 1812, and the United States Daughters of the War of 1812 will participate with Cooper’s descendants.
Members of the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard will present the colors and perform a final military tribute. A musket volley and taps will conclude the event.
Area dignitaries and U.S. Rep. John Rose have been invited.
Coopertown Cemetery is about 9 miles west of Jamestown on Hwy. 52 (Livingston Hwy.), turn right on Riverton Rd. (three tenths of a mile on the right). Parking will be in the field across from the cemetery. The ceremony will last approximately 1 hour.
