THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central is set to host its annual Yellow Jacket Invitational track and field meet on Saturday – weather permitting.
As of Monday night, 10 teams had already signed up to participate, according to Central head coach Mikeal Lovejoy. Those teams include Cairo, Thomasville, Brooks, Calhoun County, Pelham, Westover, Bainbridge and Brookwood.
“Our meet generates a whole lot of momentum. Guys get excited about it and being able to participate in it,” Lovejoy said. “It is probably one of the biggest ones in our area. Lowndes hosts a good meet and also Bainbridge. Normally, those guys that attend those meets come out and compete against each other as much as they can. When you get good competition, it only prepares you for the region.”
The day-long meet is scheduled to start with field events in the morning along with the 4×800-meter relay. The rest of the running events will be held after lunch.
This is all contingent on the weather, which does not look promising for the day. According to weather.com, there is a 92% chance of thunderstorms for Thomasville on Saturday.
