THOMASVILLE- A day after dropping a tough 12-1 game to the #6 nationally ranked Lowndes County Vikings, the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets bounced back with an impressive 8-2 victory against the Bainbridge Bearcats.
Central’s pitching staff was masterful in the game allowing only five Bearcats to reach base. Reid Gainous started on the mound for the Yellow Jackets, allowing three hits and one run, all of which came in the first inning. Gainous was dominant over the next four innings, finishing the day with eight strikeouts and no walks over five innings.
Branson Gates followed Gainous, allowing a lone run on one walk while striking out one batter. Braden Griffin finished the game in the 7th inning, striking out all three batters he faced.
While the Bearcats scored first in the game, Central’s offense would go one to plate eight runs in the game, scoring two in the second, five in the third, and one run in the fourth inning.
Brayden Payne and Nolen Taylor paced the offense with two hits each. Payne drove in two runs while Taylor pushed one runner across.
The Yellow Jackets, now 6-2 on the season, traveled to Ware County on Friday before opening up region play next week against the War Hawks of Veterans High School.
