Join with family and friends to enjoy music of the holiday season with Cumberland County Community Band.
Familiar Christmas tunes, holiday medleys and, as a special treat, the band will premiere “This Christmas Night” composed by Fairfield Glade resident D.J. Garrison.
This free concert will start at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at Stone Memorial High School, 2800 Cook Rd. Crossville.
Musical highlights include:
Sparkling Lights Fanfare on “O Christmas Tree” by Matt Conaway, featuring a festive and energetic version of this familiar tune.
Chanukah Festival Overture, arranged by Michael Isaacson and Chris Hardin. This wonderful medley includes many beloved folk songs that create a musical montage honoring the spirit and traditions of Chanukah.
“Twas the Night Before Christmas” poem by Clement Clarke Moore, arranged by Jack Bullock. Music accompanies this well-known holiday poem.
Suite from The Nutcracker by Peter I. Tchaikovsky, arranged by James Curnow. A special concert band arrangement of the best-known movements from Tchaikovsky’s well-known ballet with the spirit of the orchestral version.
Ukrainian Bell Carol, arranged by Richard L. Saucedo. This version of the popular traditional carol is filled with driving energy and fresh sounds.
Stille, Still, Stille, arranged by James Curnow. This well-known lovely German carol is sure to stir up pleasant memories of quiet Christmas traditions.
Sleigh Ride, by Leroy Anderson. A holiday tradition for all the ages.
The band is under the direction of Bill Kerr, conductor, and Ruth Ann Tuten, assistant conductor.
Its membership includes residents from Crossville and neighboring cities and towns. It also includes some talented high school band students who are eligible for scholarships from $500-$2,000.
The Community Band also has its Support the Arts — or STARTS — program which provides additional funding goals for the fine arts programs of band, chorus, classroom, music, drama and visual arts in the Cumberland County school system.
The holiday concert is sponsored by Tommy and Cathy Crabtree. The Cumberland County Community Band it is an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
