Cullman City Schools approved an updated version of its five-year capital improvement plan Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The largest individual project included in the plan was the ongoing renovations under way at Cullman Middle School which is estimated to be completed in 2025. Another major contribution to the plan is expected to be included in next year’s budget as construction begins on a new multi-level wing is added to the Cullman High School Agriscience building.
The project with the most potential to alter the structuring of the entire district will be the $23 million construction of a new two-story wing at West Elementary which, when completed in 2028, will see all the district’s elementary students transition to the new centralized location.
Other projects included in the plan include:
— $2 million for various upgrades to CMS, CHS and Cullman City Primary School.
— $1 million for renovations and modifications to East Elementary to be used as a PreK Center for up to 300 students.
— $500,000 to replace interior doors and CCPS.
In other business the board:
— Approved the Elementary Intervention Teacher job description.
— Approved the CHS special education class to travel to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Feb. 1, 2025 — Feb. 6, 2025.
— Salvaged two soccer goals at East Elementary.
— Salvaged a nonworking CubePro Duo from the CHS computer science classroom.
— Salvaged six iPad minis at CCPS.
— Salvaged a Samsung display MD55, two Macbook Pros, four Dell laptops and two HP G62 series laptops.
— Approved the retirement of West Elementary teacher Robin Smith.
— Approve the conditional employment of Academic Affairs Specialist Carissa Blair and ESL instructional assistant and parent liaison Yenny Laney.
— Approved the transfer of CCPS bookkeeper Amy Johnson to Accounts Payable Associate at the central office.
— Approved the following long-term substitutes: Emiley Beckmen, CCPS; Amy Cates, West Elementary; and Phyllis Thompson, West Elementary.
—Approve the following supplements: Spencer Allen, CHS mass media supplement; McKenzie Hill, CMS volleyball account; Katie Knop, West Elementary archery sponsor; Lauren Shelton: CMS scholar’s bowl sponsor; Ross Harrison, CHS and CMS softball community coach; Eric Johnson, CHS and CMS softball community coach; and Brody Knight, CMS community basketball coach;
—Approved the following contracts: Melanie Dellinger, nurse substitute and McKenzie Kennedy, parent training/listen spoken language.
