The Cumberland County Middle School golf team, coached by Randy Herring, opened its season on a high note recently when it swept the boys and girls divisions of a match at White County in Sparta.
The boys knocked off the Warriors 191-194, while the local girls took a 100-106 victory over the Warriorettes.
Braxton Buffkin led the way for Cumberland County, posting an impressive score of 45 for nine holes.
Max Vanwinkle was one stroke behind at 46 and Eli Verstynen had a 47.
Ryder Flatt came up with a 53 to finish fourth on the CCMS team. Bryant Wilson carded a 55.
Braden Lee, playing as an individual, shot a 42.
White County countered with two golfers shooting under 46.
Tripp Tollison had a 41, the lowest score of the day. Bray Roberts was just
four strokes back at 45.
Ryan Whittaker shot 53 for the Warriors, while Zander Simmons and Bryson Burchette wrapped up the scoring with identical rounds of 55.
In the girls division, Molly Bass set the pace with a nine-hole total of 49 to lead the way for Cumberland County.
Kinsley Wilson shot 51, and Emmee Stofflet rounded out the scoring with a 56.
Linzee Golden had the low score for the White County Warriorettes. She fired a 52.
Ava Elrod posted a score of 54, and Willow Whitson fired a 60 to wrap up the team total.
