PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State’s bats came alive over the final four innings on Thursday afternoon in a 12-5 victory over Canton in SUNYAC baseball.
The Cardinals (10-20, 2-13) trailed, 3-2, after five innings before tallying 10 runs over the final four frames to pull away.
Starter Jack Castillo went six innings plus to get the win and Nick Goldberg the final three for the save.
Castillo allowed three hits, four runs, walked three and struck out seven. Goldberg surrendered one hit, one run, walked one and fanned one.
Meanwhile the Cardinals rapped out 20 hits in all.
Kyle Cremin led the way offensively with four hits, followed by Austin Caldwell and Frankie Kowal with three apiece, and Joey Di Rocco, Alex Kornblau, Michael Piccirillo and Adam Wein two hits each.
Cremin, Caldwell and Kowal each drove in two runs. Kowal scored three runs and Di Rocco, Cremin and Wein each crossed the plate twice.
Kornblau and Kowal hit triples, while Cremin and Piccirillo each doubled.
Elieser Vasquez paced the Roos (6-10, 3-11) offensively with a single and double as Canton was outhit, 20-6.
Former Northern Adirondack Central School standout Kayden Guerin started on the mound for the Roos and limited the Cardinals to two runs over the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth.
The Cardinals close out their SUNYAC schedule this weekend with a home doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today and a single game on Sunday at noon against Fredonia.
