PLATTSBURGH — It was a big weekend in SUNYAC play for the Plattsburgh State baseball team.
The Cardinals (15-7, 5-4) swept a three-game set at Fredonia, winning by 5-2 and 7-6 scores on Saturday and a 16-2 victory on Sunday.
Plattsburgh’s three conference starters — Kolby Mordecki, Chris Santic and Andrew Veit — picked up victories and allowed the Blue Devils only a combined six runs in 21 innings.
In the 5-2 win, Mordecki went seven innings, allowed six hits, one run, walked two and struck out six.
In the 7-6 victory, Santic worked seven innings, surrendered seven hits, three runs, walked three and fanned 10.
And in the seven-inning, run-rule 16-2 game on Sunday, Veit pitched the distance as he allowed eight hits, two runs, walked one and struck out nine.
“We got strong pitching from our three starters,” Plattsburgh head coach Sam Quinn-Loeb said. “And we were able to do enough offensively before breaking loose in the third game.”
In addition, the Cardinals were not assessed an error in the three games and played well defensively.

Plattsburgh held a 3-1 lead through seven innings in this one before the two teams combined to score nine runs over the final two innings.
The Blue Devils trailed 7-3 going to the bottom of the ninth and scored three runs to cut their deficit to 7-6 and left runners on first and third when the final out was recorded.
“Fredonia needed wins as much as we did and they weren’t going down without a fight,” Quinn-Loeb said.
Jack Defayette had three hits and two runs scored for the Cardinals, who finished with 10 hits. Kornblau contributed two hits and Adam Diltz had a hit and two RBI.
Gonzalski had a double in the contest and that marked his 100th hit at Plattsburgh.

The Cardinals had a combined 14 extra-base hits in the three games.
Plattsburgh hosts Middlebury College in a non-conference game today at 3 p.m. and is at St. Lawrence University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday.
This coming weekend, the Cardinals have a key three-game SUNYAC set at home against Oneonta, one of the teams Plattsburgh is battling for a playoff spot with.
“We have to take at least two of three,” Quinn-Loeb said. “Oneonta has some good players.”
Plattsburgh has played 22 games this season, with 21 of them being on the road.
