PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State’s T.J. Beninati led off the bottom of the first inning with a single Sunday afternoon.
Who would have imagined that would be the Cardinals’ only hit on the day in a 2-1 and 1-0 doubleheader loss to Farmingdale State.
Plattsburgh opened its Florida trip on Saturday by rallying for a 5-3 win over Wisconsin-Superior before the two losses on Sunday dropped the Cardinals to 3-2 on the season.
Kolby Mordecki, Kaelen Clarkson and Isaiah Maines gave the Cardinals three good starts on the mound.
Plattsburgh played DePauw in a noon doubleheader on Monday.

The Cardinals didn’t have an answer for the Rams’ Derek Torres who went the distance for the win as he surrendered one hit, one run, walked one and struck out four.
Plattsburgh scored its lone run in the bottom of the first when Beninati singled and later scored on Kornblau’s RBI grounder to second.
The tough-luck loss went to Clarkson, who gave up six hits, two runs, walked two and fanned one in going the first six innings.

Starter Roman Dorosh and reliever Dennis Kelly combined for a no-hitter for the Rams in the second game.
Dorosh had some control issues in going the first 3.2 innings as he struck out four but walked seven.
Kelly was then lights out over the final 3.1 innings to get the victory. He did not walk anyone and struck out five.
The Cardinals were unable to take advantage of the seven walks as they had three runners thrown out attempting to steal.
Losing pitcher Maines gave his team four good innings as he allowed one hit, one run, walked three and fanned one.
