LAVALE — Two area businessmen have opened a cannabis dispensary in LaVale employing more than 20 people.
Robert Boyle, of Cumberland, and Scott Cutter, of Frostburg, launched Stoked Dispensary, 1231 National Highway, on Jan. 31. The dispensary has product for medical prescription patients as well as recreational customers.
“We are excited to be up and running,” Boyle said.
“We want to be your local choice for cannabis.”
Boyle and Cutter spent two years working through the challenges involved in launching the business, including dealing with the May flooding that hit the nearby Braddock Run stream.
“It’s been a long road,” Boyle said. “We had to improve the storm water system, but we are open for business and welcome everyone.”
Cutter says the dispensary has a wide variety of products.
“We have pre-rolls, flower, gummies and different edibles and baked goods and beverages that have been very popular,” Cutter said.
Boyle has a background in physical therapy having worked at Rehab First, which has locations in Frostburg and Cumberland. Cutter has been working in graphic design.
The co-owners purchased the former J&M Electronics property on National Highway and demolished it to build the dispensary.
They were selected by the Maryland Cannabis Commission in summer 2024 for an available dispensary license in Allegany County.
“We were excited to be chosen,” Cutter said. “It took two years working back and forth with the cannabis administration making sure everything was together there and building the business out. Finally they said we were good to open.”
According to the co-owners, Stoked Dispensary employs more than 20 people at competitive wages and hopes to expand in the future.
Cutter is a graduate of Beall High School and Boyle is a Bishop Walsh School graduate.
“We are your local provider,” Boyle said. “We’re local going back multiple generations.
“At the Stoked Dispensary, we pride ourselves on customer service,” he added. “We are like the local mom and pop store. We want to make sure our service is superior to anywhere. We want people to have the best experience and the best products for their needs.”
Cutter said the dispensary has a drive-thru window for convenient pickup.
The dispensary is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit the dispensary on Facebook or at stokedmd.com.
