WESTMINSTER — Red-hot Calvary hit a speed bump Friday, falling 2-1 in a non-conference matchup to Carroll Christian to end its six game winning streak.
The loss was just Calvary’s second of the season, which fell to 7-2.
Carroll opened the scoring at the 33-minute mark and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. It extended its lead early in the second half with a second goal at 50:35, putting Calvary in a 2-0 hole.
Calvary’s lone goal came at 60:35 from Lauren Engle, who delivered a beautiful unassisted corner kick that found the net cleanly — an individual effort that gave her team a late glimmer of hope.
“The first half was probably the worst I’ve seen us play all year,” Calvary head coach Scott Weeks said. “We came out flat and couldn’t string together many good passes. We were out of sync and it cost us.
“In the second half, we adjusted the formation and shifted some players. We looked a little better and started to show some spark. Lauren’s corner kick goal shifted the momentum in our favor, but unfortunately, we ran out of time.”
Statistically, Carroll edged Calvary with 14 total shots to Calvary’s 12 and edged the shots on goal, 12 to eight. Calvary’s goalkeeper Selah Livengood stayed active between the posts, recording 10 saves to keep her team within reach.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Calvary will look to bounce back quickly. The Eagles travel to Hagerstown on Monday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Heritage.
