Reese Bromby just did in a singular season what most people would deem pretty good for an entire high school career.
And the Newburyport senior was rewarded justly for her accomplishments.
With the recent release of the end-of-season Cape Ann League girls lacrosse awards, Bromby was named the Kinney MVP. The UMass Amherst commit and two-time All-CAL First Team selection would finish the spring with 101 goals and 9 assists, leading the Clippers (17-6) back to the Division 3 state championship game for the third straight year.
And she was joined on the 15-person All-CAL team by fellow co-captain Grace Chandler, who spearheaded the team’s defensive effort while routinely being the go-to athlete to break opposing pressure and bring the ball up the field. The Clippers then also saw both senior Avery Tahnk and sophomore Emily Chandler earn a spot on the CAL All-Star Second Team. Tahnk poured in 44 goals with 9 assists this spring, while Chandler (13g, 13a) helped out some with the scoring, but really continued to shine more as a wing on the draw as the season progressed.
Moving on, Pentucket had five athletes honored between both All-Star teams.
And earning a spot on the All-CAL First Team were all scholarship players in seniors Kate Conover, Ella Palmer and Sydney Trout. Conover (Saint Anselm) scored 55 goals with 43 assists this spring in helping the Panthers reach the Division 4 quarterfinals, and leaves going back-to-back as an All-CAL selection. The same is true for the high-scoring attack Palmer (University of Tampa), now a two-time All-CAL pick who led the team in scoring this year with 85 goals and 21 assists. Meanwhile for the Duke-commit Trout, who was an All-CAL athlete as a sophomore in 2023, she returned to the field this year after missing all of last spring with a torn ACL. But she more than made up for the lost time, ending the season with 38 goals and an area-high 46 assists.
Then for Cat Colvin, she ends her high school career — and is now off to Hobart College — having been named to one of the league’s All-Star teams all four years. The attack scored 60 goals with 39 assists this spring to make the CAL All-Star team, and leaves having earned three CAL All-Star and one All-CAL nod. Finally for the Panthers, junior Katherine Wisniewski was also named a CAL All-Star. She helped the team out offensively with 16 goals and 8 assists, but is a specialist on the draw who won 122 controls this year.
Up next, there are a lot of positives to discus when talking about the future of Triton, which earned two CAL All-Star selections in Meredith Morneau and Carolyn Silva. Yes, the program will miss the senior Morneau, who recently graduated. But Silva (19g, 11a) is just a freshman, and the Vikings also saw their coach, Patrick Silva, be named the Kinney Coach of the Year. After not winning a game all of last season, the Vikings won three times this year and made it back to the Division 4 playoffs.
Lastly, Georgetown just missed out on earning a spot in the playoffs, but did get to celebrate two CAL All-Stars in Sam McClure and Katie Davies. For McClure, who is now headed off to continue her career at Bates College, she finishes as a two-time CAL All-Star after scoring 38 goals with 18 assists this year. Then for the three-sport standout Davies (soccer, basketball), she would finish the spring third on the team in scoring with 29 goals and 10 assists.
