A Crossville business owner reported to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office this week the trucking firm is the victim of an online wire fraud incident which resulted in the loss of $5,500.
The owner of Fair Play Motor Freight on Sept. 30 notified Deputies Jacob Moore and Aidyn Smith he discovered $5,500 fraudulently wired from his bank account through online activity.
Records show several transactions being carried out Sept. 27 between 3:41-3:55 p.m. under the false claim of fuel reimbursements. The funds were transferred to an individual associated with a transportation company in Ontario, Canada.
It is not known if the business will be able to recover the missing funds.
