BRUNSWICK — Bradwell Institute got a last-second miracle shot and ended Tift County’s unbeaten record Friday, Dec. 22, at the Hoopin’ at the High invitational at Brunswick.
The Lady Devils had entered at 7-0 before Jamia Ousley’s stumbling shot off the glass that gave Bradwell the 46-44 victory.
Tift had led by as many as 10 points in the 3rd period and were up six (42-36) on a Jalaya Miller drive with 2:15 remaining. Mikayla Oliveira tied the count at 44-all with a three-pointer.
Both teams started slow, the Lady Tigers ahead 7-5 after a quarter. Jimmya Cushion banked in a three 10 seconds into the game but didn’t score again until the final minute.
They began heating up in the 2nd, outscoring Bradwell, 13-6. Cushion hit another triple and Caitlyn Burgess scored just before halftime to put the Lady Devils up 18-13.
Burgess scored on an assist from Cushion for a press-aided two points to begin the 3rd. Tift began pulling away on Cushion’s third three, plus points from Burgess, Makayla Bryant and Miller. Bradwell pulled to four, 31-27, at the end of the quarter.
Cushion provided 18 points on the day, with Burgess at 10 and Miller with 8.
Tift was to wrap up the Brunswick trip Saturday against North Paulding.
