The Amesbury hockey team is picking up a lot of steam as of late.
After a tough three-game stretch against some high-end competition in the CAL, the Redhawks have performed a complete 180. Which continued on Wednesday night, as the Redhawks got another strong performance in net from freshman Colin Dyer (18 saves), and held on late to pick up a 2-1 win over Lunenberg.
Matt Venturi and Wes Ackerman were behind the goals for Amesbury (5-5-0), and Nathan Brown had two assists. Both Maddox LeBlanc and Bodie Marcotte also had helpers, and Jamie Gray, Evan Murphy and Lincoln Kime were credited with playing strong defense in front of Dyer.
Lunenberg entered the game 10-1-1 and was ranked No. 15 in Division 4.
But, after the victory, Amesbury now has consecutive wins over Rockport, Beverly and, of course, Lunenberg. The Redhawks will look to make it four in a row when they travel to play Lynnfield on Saturday for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
TRITON HANDLES PENTUCKET, NOW PRIMED FOR SATURDAY REMATCH
If there was a “look-ahead” attitude in the minds of the Triton hockey team on Wednesday night, it certainly didn’t show itself.
The Vikings were crisp in all three zones, skating to a comfortable 6-0 shutout of Pentucket. Luke Sullivan scored twice for the winners, who also got goals from Mason Colby (2 assists), Josh Hersey, Vinny Magee and Michael Taylor (2 assists). Senior captain Jack Lindholm continued his fantastic season with two more assists, Kyle Regnier, Joe Niska and Aiden Szymanski also had helpers, and Gavin Marengi and Josh Berger split the shutout in net.
Up next for the Vikings (8-5-0), though, is the highly-anticipated rematch against archrival Newburyport on Saturday at noon. The Clippers won the first matchup earlier in the year to extend their rivalry winning streak to six games, so you know tensions will be high at the Graf.
Triton was ranked No. 4 in the latest MIAA Division 3 rankings, while Newburyport came in at No. 5 in Division 2.
CLIPPERS TAKE CARE OF ROCKPORT, LAMB GETS 4TH SHUTOUT
Each period got better and better for the Newburyport boys hockey team on Wednesday night.
The Clippers led visiting Rockport by a goal after the first 15 minutes, increased it to 3-0 heading into the third, and would find the back of the net four times during the final frame to cruise to the shutout victory, 7-0. With it, senior goalie Damien Lamb (16 saves) picked up his fourth shutout of the season.
Jack Sullivan started Newburyport (8-3-1) off with a first-period tally, and Will Palermino would eventually lead the way with two goals. Kane Brennan had a goal and three assists, Caden Eiserman and Graham Luskin both scored, and Finn McNeil picked up his first ever varsity goal.
