MOULTRIE – The Boys & Girls Club of Moultrie/Colquitt County is still registering students for this school year on a first come, first served basis.
The club has four locations including the Moultrie Main Club, the Berlin Youth Center, the R.D. Smith Teen Center and the Moultrie Housing Authority.
The Boys & Girls Club’s after-school programming focuses on a structured youth development model including academic success, homework assistance and life skill building, along with character and leadership development, states the club’s website.
“We have numerous programs that develop the youth. We partner with the arts center and PCOM medical college,” said Program Director Lateegra Fiveash.
The clubs operate Monday through Friday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The R.D. Smith Teen Center is open the first, second and third Saturday each month, from noon to 6 p.m. Transportation is provided by the Colquitt Country Board of Education to each club.
“We close at 6 p.m. and parents have to pick students up by that time,” said Fiveash.
The membership fee is $10 for ages 5-12 and teens are free. Parents can register at the Main Club, 420 W. Central Ave., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Spots are limited at each club but are still available at this time.
Participants in the Boys & Girls Club of Moultrie/Colquitt County after-school program pay a $25 per semester fee. The semester terms are August-December and January-May. Each member receives a hot meal and a healthy snack every day.
Fiveash said that the Boys & Girls Club is in need of school supplies as some of the students don’t have what they need.
“Anyone who is interested in donating school supplies, we could really use some for the students,” she said.
