ANDOVER — There’s no quit in the Little League all-stars from Boxford.
Late Wednesday night in their first game at the Section 4 tournament at Andover’s Deyermond Field, Boxford rallied from a run down in the late innings twice to win on an extra innings walk-off, 3-2.
After Billerica snatched a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh, Henry Carrieri of Boxford responded by hitting a game tying double. He then came home on a passed ball to win it as the District 15 champs remained unbeaten on the summer.
Up next for Boxford is a battle with fellow unbeaten and D16 champ Lynnfield back at Deyermond Field on Thursday (5 p.m.). The winner advances to Saturday’s sectional title game while the loser would play an elimination game on Friday against whoever wins Thursday’s late game between Billerica and Stoneham.
Boxford also came alive to tie Billerica at 1-1 in the fifth inning Wednesday night. The District 15 champs fell behind by a run in the early going but got even in the fifth. Ben LaChance walked, moved along on a Rhett Barnes single and then came home on a steal when Billerica threw down to second to try and catch a runner stealing that bag.
Jake DeLeo got the start for Boxford and struck out three while allowing the one run over three innings of work.
