LONDONDERRY — The body of a Londonderry man reported missing in April was recovered last week by Maine officials in the wooded area of a small village.
Nearly two weeks after Alec Misco, 25, was reported missing by his family on April 22, the Maine Department of Inland Fishers and Wildlife recovered his body around May 5 in Rockwood, Maine, a small village in Somerset County bordering Moosehead Lake.
“We couldn’t be more devastated by the loss and ask that everyone gives our family time to mourn such an amazing man,” the Misco family wrote on social media.
Officials at the department did not respond to requests for comment about the circumstances surrounding Misco’s death.
Though Misco was known to leave the family home to go on drives, he never did so without telling his family, which raised concerns, said Londonderry Detective Christopher Olson.
In tracking Misco’s cellphone, his last known location placed him in the vicinity of Jackman, Maine, around 4 a.m. on April 23 in a wooded area within miles of a Canadian customs checkpoint. At first, the family and law enforcement officials speculated he may have crossed into Canada but Canadian Border Control had no record of him.
Rockwood, Maine, is about a 40 minute drive from Jackman.
Misco was not known to have any ongoing mental health or substance-abuse concerns and he did not have a criminal record at the time of his disappearance. Foul play is not suspected in his disappearance.
