The final tally on snowfall from the overnight blizzard came in around 15-16 inches in many communities on the North Shore, according to reports — but the drifts were far deeper, posing a much more strenuous task for residents to clear away the heavy, wet piles of snow on Tuesday.
By Tuesday morning, only a small percentage of power outages caused by the storm had yet to be resolved, according to National Grid, down from more than 13,000 the previous morning.
Officials had urged motorists to stay off the roads and work from home, if possible, due to the hazardous driving conditions. Schools were closed for a second straight day, but were poised to reopen as normal for Wednesday.
Most parking bans expired Tuesday afternoon or evening, and in several communities, trash and recycling pickups were also moved to a one-day delay schedule this week.
In the forecast, Wednesday is expected to see another 1-2 inches of snow during the daytime but with temperatures in the high 30s.
