BJ Omot is returning to the west coast.
Omot, a 2022 graduate of Mankato East, announced his commitment to California State University Northridge on social media Friday after a season at the University of Minnesota.
The 6-foot, 8-inch forward’s return to the west coast will be his fourth collegiate stop. Omot spent his first two seasons at North Dakota. From 2022-24 Omot averaged 14.3 points per game while shooting .409 from the field, averaging 33 minutes per game across 65 games.
He then left North Dakota to transfer to the University of California-Berkley for the 2025-25 season. He appeared in four games and started twice, averaging 10.8 points per game. Omot did not appear in a game for the Golden Gophers during the 2025-26 season.
Before taking his talents to the college level he established himself as one of East’s greatest basketball players. His 1,307 career points ranks fourth in program history. During his senior season he averaged 22.8 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game while leading the Cougars to a third place finish in Class AAA.
CSUN finished 20-14 overall and 12-8 in Big West conference play. The Matadors last made the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
