The Buffalo Bills have added to the wide receiver room.
Elijah Moore agreed Wednesday to a one-year contract worth $5 million, first reported by ESPN. The 25-year-old has four seasons of NFL experience, the last two with the Cleveland Browns after being a 2021 second-round pick of the New York Jets.
Moore had a career-high 61 catches for 538 yards and a touchdown last season. He’s recorded 200 catches for 2,162 yards and nine touchdowns in 61 career games. Moore had a career-high 640 yards in 2023 and has never averaged more than 12.5 yards per catch.
Moore visited the Bills Monday, the same day general manager Brandon Beane scolded WGR-AM radio hosts for complaining about not adding a receiver before the seventh round of the NFL draft. Beane has repeatedly stated throughout the offseason that the team is comfortable with the top-four receivers — Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, Curtis Samuel and Khalil Shakir — on the roster.
Despite the addition, Moore’s spot on the roster is not guaranteed. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder has played 45% of his career snaps out of the slot, with a nearly 50-50 split during his time with the Browns.
Moore will have to prove that he can play outside because Shakir will be Buffalo’s primary slot receiver, with Samuel and tight end Dalton Kincaid also commanding snaps in that spot.
After Moore’s visit to the Bills was made public, the Browns slapped an unrestricted free agent tender on Moore. His signing will factor into whether the NFL awards the Browns with a compensatory pick in next year’s NFL draft.
Moore now joins a receiver group that also includes seventh-round pick Kaden Prather, K.J. Hamler, Tyrell Shavers, Laviska Shenault Jr. and Jalen Virgil.
