The Buffalo Bills will get at least two more years of Greg Rousseau.
The team announced Monday it picked up the fifth-year option on Rousseau’s rookie contract and is expected to make $13.4 million guaranteed in that final year. The defensive end was selected 30th overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft and has started all 46 games played, missing four games due to injury during his first three seasons.
Rousseau has compiled 17 sacks, 30 tackles for a loss and 42 quarterback hits during his career with the Bills. The 24-year-old is expected to take on a greater role this season with departure of Leonard Floyd in free agency and Von Miller’s progression unknown after struggling in his return from a torn ACL in which he made three tackles in 12 games last season.
One of the top run defenders in the NFL, Rousseau ranked 10th by Pro Football Focus among defensive ends and 14th among all defensive linemen with a grade of 79.6.
The Bills also announced the signing of wide receiver Quintez Cephus, who was suspended all of last season for betting on NFL games. He was reinstated by the league on April 18.
Cephus, 26, was one of three Detroit Lions players suspended and he was released immediately. He was a fifth-round pick of Detroit in 2020, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie.
In his second season, Cephus made 15 catches for 204 yards and two scores in five games before his season ended due to a shoulder injury. Cephus was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury after four games in 2022.
Cephus, who is 6-foot-1, 208 pounds, also missed the end of the 2018 season at Wisconsin due to a broken leg. He was did not play at all in 2019 after being expelled for sexual assault, for which he was acquitted in court, and reinstated to the school.
